Road renamed to Jaime Cardinal Sin street

When i accidentally went on the website of Archdiocese of Manila, i read that a street in Mandaluyong was renamed to Jaime Cardinal Sin street. My first reaction is, ok, theres nothing wrong with that. Even they rename all the streets and national roads to priests, bishops, archbishops, we INC members dont care and we dont react exaggerated. We also dont care and react negatively when feasts and so on of the Catholic Church are declared as holidays.

But why is it that when it is about the Iglesia ni Cristo, they react so much as if the INC killed thousands of people like what happened in the Inquisition. As if the INC abused its powers, took the properties of the Filipinos in the past and called filipinos "indios". As if the INC done something like forced conversion of people to the church and made its power same to the government, and so on.

Let us read a reaction of a catholic defender who have same reaction with nonmembers, on his article entitled Erano Manalo Avenue (formerly Commonwealth avenue):

Politician lawmakers, not religious leaders who still believe in the mythical Iglesia ni Cristo "bloc vote" came up with a suggestion to rename the Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City to Eraño Manalo Avenue.

Is this politicking?!

Housebill 6785 proposes to rename one of the busiest streets in Quezon City to the Iglesia ni Cristo heir (son of the founder Felix Manalo) in recognition of his "spiritual contribution" to the Filipino people.

What kind of spiritual contribution these Congressmen and women are saying? This same Iglesia ni Cristo denied Christ and accused the Catholic Church and Protestants of being "sons of perdition."

Let's not forget these "Traditional Politicians (trapos)" lawmakers who are very much influenced under the INC mythical "bloc vote" spell. They are Reps. Candido P. Pancrudo, Jr. (Bukidnon), Diosdado “Dato" M. Arroyo (Camarines Sur), Pedro P. Romualdo (Camiguin), Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano (Misamis Oriental), Jose S. Aquino II (Agusan del Norte), Antonio F. Lagdameo, Jr. (Davao del Norte) at Rommel C. Amatong (Compostela Valley).

If there's any religious leader who truly united our people, it should be the late Cardinal Jaime Sin even without his being Archbishop. No one doubts about that!
Commonwealth Ave nais ipangalan kay 'Ka Erdy' Manalo ng INC
MANILA (

“House Bill 6785 sought to convey Ka Erdy’s idea of Filipino ingenuity by sculpturing a religion that originated in the Philippines, which has expanded around the world," nakasaad sa pahayag.

Sa ilalim ng pamamahala ni Manalo lumaganap ang kapatiran ng INC sa iba’t-ibang bahagi ng mundo. Tinatayang mayroong simbahan ang INC sa 60 bansa.

“Ka Erdy also piloted the spiritual and moral well being of the Filipino people," ayon sa mga kongresista.

“With Eraño G. Manalo’s religious leadership that transcended over political and social boundaries, Ka Erdy is worthy to be lined up with great Filipino leaders and other great Filipino achievers," idinagdag sa pahayag.

Candido P. Pancrudo, Jr. (Bukidnon), Diosdado “Dato" M. Arroyo (Camarines Sur), Pedro P. Romualdo (Camiguin), Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano (Misamis Oriental), Jose S. Aquino II (Agusan del Norte), Antonio F. Lagdameo, Jr. (Davao del Norte) at Rommel C. Amatong (Compostela Valley).

If these lawmakers wanted to do that, let them do it in their cities, not in Quezon City. If they wish, they could name our kantos and esquinitas to him. In terms of number, the El Shaddai of Mike Velarde is more than tha affiliates of the Iglesia ni Cristo.

Stop playing politics and religion together. Keep our street names from any religious influence.

Note: The INC never requested renaming of roads to Erano Manalo street/avenue or Felix Manalo street/avenue, and never did the INC requested to the government to make July 27 a special working holiday. I think these recognitions are well deserved by the INC, what i wonder is that why does nonmembers react so much as if the INC will do evil things.

By the way, this is the news about renaming a street to Jaime Cardinal Sin:

A street in Mandaluyong City will be formally named Jaime Cardinal Sin Street in ceremonies at 5:30 pm today (August 31, 2011), the 83rd birth anniversary of the late Archbishop of Manila.

Church officials led by two of Cardinal Sin’s secretaries – Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen-Dagupan and Bishop Gabriel Reyes of Antipolo will join Mandaluyong officials in the renaming rites.

The street, formerly E. Rodriguez street, intersects the main thoroughfare Shaw Boulevard, and where Villa San Miguel, Cardinal Sin’s residence for the duration of his term as Manila Archbishop is located.

The idea to rename the street was put forward soon after the death of the charismatic Church leader, one of the main heroes of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

The main highlight of the ceremonies will be the unveiling and blessing of the street signs: Shaw Blvd/Sin St; Pascual/Sin Streets; De La Paz/Sin Streets and V. Victorino/Sin Streets. Officiating at each unveiling and blessing are Mandaluyong City official, Church official, a Mandaluyong parish priest and a relative of Cardinal Sin.

The blessing is also a way of “consecrating” the neighborhood where a revered man of the Church once resided.

Aside from Archbishop Villegas and Bishop Reyes, the other bishops at the ceremonies will Bishop Francisco San Diego, Bishop Emeritus of Pasig, Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara of Pasig, Bishop Honest Ongtioco of Cubao, Bishop Ruperto Santos of Balanga and Manila Auxiliary Bishop Bernardino Cortez.

After the unveiling and blessing, a short entertainment program will be held for the people mostly from the area, that will feature a magician to remember the occasions when Cardinal Sin would gather children in his residence to watch clowns and magicians. There will also be an exhibit of photos and memorabilia of Cardinal Sin at Villa San Miguel where one of the featured items is a vestment which had been worn by Blessed John Paul II and Cardinal Sin. Fireworks will conclude the event.

Does Jaime Cardinal sin deserve this?

Maybe. I have nothing against him. We all know that he is one of the key people on the Edsa I or People Power I which forced Marcoses to leave the country and free filipinos on Marcos' dictatorship.

He is also one of the key people on the unconstitutional People Power (as Former Pres. Erap unseated in his presidency WITHOUT due process) called Edsa II, his involvement on politics made him also known. As i observed, the Catholic Church doesnt want to meddle on politics but it is the Catholic officials who want to.

As what happened on Edsa II:

The Vatican was said to have been displeased over the involvement of the Sin-led Philippine clergy in the new uprising because of its implications on the Catholic Church?s missions in China, Russia and Vietnam.
?The Church was worried about its apostolic mission in Russia, China and Vietnam. It (the intervention of the Church in political events in the Philippines) might create apprehensions that it?s risky to let the Catholic Church come in because it might meddle,? the first source explained.
?Ang order from Rome was for him to withdraw because ayaw na ng Rome na makikialam ang simbahan (The order from Rome was for him to withdraw because Rome didn?t want the Church to meddle),? said the source.
But Sin would have none of it. ?He said he would rather resign,? the source disclosed.

Supporting Edsa I is correct but Edsa II? Here is what CBCP said:

MANILA, Philippines - After more than seven years, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) acknowledged the error of the "Sin era" in supporting the second people’s uprising on EDSA, and wants to "make up" for it.

Manila archdiocese vice chancellor Fr. Sid Marinay said the current direction of the CBCP is now to strengthen political institutions that EDSA 2 had weakened.

With his involvement on politics, plus supporting an unconstitutional Edsa II again, does Jaime Cardinal Sin deserve this???
