"Ipaglaban mo nang puspusan ang pananampalataya. Panghawakan mong mabuti ang buhay na walang hanggan, dahil diyan ka tinawag ng Diyos nang ipahayag mo sa harap ng maraming saksi ang iyong pananalig kay Cristo." I Tim. 6:12

In God's image

Gen. 1:26 “Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image….”

Philippians 2:6, “who, being in the form of god, thought it not robbery to be equal with god.”

Colossians 1:15 “he is the image of the invisible god”

We (humans) are created in God’s image as what stated in Gen. 1:26 but does it mean that we are created in the state of being same as God's?

Just like Jesus Christ, the bible says “he is the image of the invisible God” (Col.1:15) does it mean that Jesus Christ is same as God because it is said that he is the “image” of God?

And in Phil. 2:6 “…being in the form of God” does it mean that Christ is God?
Well, let’s find it out.

Let’s read Eph. 4:23-24 that says,

“And that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.”

We are created in God’s image in righteousness and holiness. And to support that we are created in righteousness and holiness, lets read Eccles. 7:29:

"Behold, I have found only this, that God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices."

But we failed to God’s standard for all have sinned.

Let’s read Rom. 3:23 that says,

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”

Christ is also created in the image of God like us because he is also a human and a creation, it is not in the state of being that we are created but in RIGHTEOUSNESS AND HOLINESS.
But what is our difference to Christ?
Lets read I pet. 2:21-22 that says,

“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps."He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."

The difference is that we are all have sinned but only Jesus Christ the only man who has committed no sin and who has lived up to God’s purpose of creating man in his image, that’s why it is said that Christ is in “…being in the form of god”(Phil. 2:6).

It is not said that “Christ is god” but only in the “form of god” like what Apostle Peter testified in john 6:69 that says,

“we believe and know that you are the holy one of god

Christ is holy because he was sanctified by God, it is written in John 10:36.
Note: “form” is a near synonym of “image”

Let us always remember that Christ is not equal with god, and to prove that, let us continue reading the verse in Philippians...

"Who, being in the form of god….. thought it not robbery to be equal with god.”

  1. Romans 3:23
    New King James Version (NKJV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

    Question:
    1) If the Son is only human, then how come he is not included in all which pertains to all humans?

kindly see the verse that you've given.. there's a word SINNED.. though He is human, for us or what the bible teaches.. He is not just only human or ordinary human.. for He is a "PERFECT" human which means not sinned at all.. so why include that to all humans?

  2. crazymunch,

YOU HAVE TO REALIZE THAT ANGELIC BEINGS AND HUMAN BEINGS CAN SIN. THE ONLY BEING THAT CANNOT SIN IS GOD, BECAUSE HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT IS HOLY BY NATURE. JESUS IS GOD AND MAN; HE WAS NOT PART OF "ALL" THAT PERTAINS TO HUMANS. ALL HUMANS ARE JUST HUMANS, BUT JESUS IS GOD AND HUMAN.

  3. jeffrey,

Christ is the only MAN that did not sin. He was holy. It did not mean that he is God. He is the standard or model of all human.

Jesus a half God half Human or with two natures, God + human is a false belief because it is unbiblical.

  4. Jn 3:31 "He who comes from above is above all, he who is of the earth is from the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

Jn 6: 38 "For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.
62 "What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
64 "But there are some of you who do not believe."

It's sad to see that Church of Chirst DO NOT BELIEVE that Jesus Christ is God...you only see His human form but it is clearly stated in the bible that he just ascended from above.. He is from heaven.. He just came on earth with the help of the Holy Spirit to be born and to die to save us. You even used Gen. 1:26. It is clearly stated there "Let 'Us' make a man".. can't you see? God was speaking with the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  6. Isaiah 44:24

"...I am the LORD who made all things,
    who ALONE stretched out the heavens;
who spread out the earth by MYSELF."

It is NOT our Lord Jesus Christ who was used as instrument by God for the creation of the world (Proverbs 3:19),:

"Through WISDOM the LORD founded the earth; through UNDERSTANDING He laid the heavens on its place."

...but God had cherubim and seraphim with Him during the creation, whom were already with Him before the creation (Genesis 3:24, Isaiah 6:2)!:

"After He drove out the man, He placed cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life."

"Above Him stood the seraphim. Each of them had six wings; with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, with two he flew around him."

The angels had human likeness (Ezekiel 1:5):
"And the from the midst of it there came the likeness of four creatures. And this was their appearance: they had human likeness,"

Jesus is greater than all whom dwell on the earth, but is no more lower/less than our Lord GOD (John 14:28):

"...for my Father is GREATER than I."
