The Birth of the MessiahTanong:
[SSE]

What are the differences of Christmas and Passover?
Answer 1
It's much easier to answer this question by saying that there is no similarity whatsoever, between the concepts or practice of the Christian Christmas and the Jewish Passover. So I'll let you come up with your own list of features and characteristics, and I'll tell you right now that according to every one of those, the two are different.
Answer 2
Easter has a connection to Passover in that "the Last Supper" was a Passover Seder and occurred not long before the Crucifixion. Christmas, however, is entirely unrelated to Passover.
PASKWA o PASKUWA o PASKUA
alternate spellings in different Tagalog Bibles: Paskuwa, Paskua
from the Spanish Pascua, meaning EasterPaskwa
Easter, Eastertide
Easter seasonPaskwa
Passover, the Jewish festival celebrating the Exodus from slavery in Egypt
Araw ng Paskwa
Easter DayLinggo ng Pagkabuhay
Easter Sunday ("Resurrection Sunday")Pasko ng Pagkabuhay
Easter ("Feast of the Resurrection")Kordero ng Paskua
Passover LambHapunang Pampaskuwa / Hapunang Pampaskwa
Passover Meal / Passover Dinner / Passover SederThe Filipino word paskwa also refers to the poinsettia, a flower associated with Christmas season (Pascua being a metaphorical Spanish word for Christmas).source: tagaloglang.com
"The Tagalog word Pasko derives from the Spanish word Pascua. Although the word Pascua means Easter, Pascua de Navidad refers to Christmas."
"The earliest evidence of the celebration on December 25 of a Christian liturgical feast of the birth of Jesus is from the Chronography of 354 AD.
This was in Rome, while in Eastern Christianity the birth of Jesus was already celebrated in connection with the Epiphany on January 6. The December 25 celebration was imported into the East later: in Antioch by John Chrysostom towards the end of the 4th century, probably in 388, and in Alexandria only in the following century. Even in the West, the January 6 celebration of the nativity of Jesus seems to have continued until after 380."

"Many popular customs associated with Christmas developed independently of the commemoration of Jesus' birth, with certain elements having origins in pre-Christian festivals that were celebrated around the winter solstice by pagan populations who were later converted to Christianity.
These elements, including the Yule log from Yule and gift giving from Saturnalia, became syncretized into Christmas over the centuries. The prevailing atmosphere of Christmas has also continually evolved since the holiday's inception, ranging from a sometimes raucous, drunken, carnival-like state in the Middle Ages, to a tamer family-oriented and children-centered theme introduced in a 19th-century reformation. Additionally, the celebration of Christmas was banned on more than one occasion within Protestant Christendom due to concerns that it was too pagan or unbiblical."
source: wikipedia
“In particular, I want to urge you in the name of the lord, not to on living the aimless kind of life that pagans live. Intellectually they are in the dark, and they are estranged from the life of God, without knowledge because they have shut their hearts to it.” Eph. 4:17-18, Jerusalem bible
Catholic Defender at PRIEST VS. Catholic Defender
"For the information of those English speaking people reading this blog, PASKO is popularly known feast in the Philippines and it's not about the Jewish Passover holidays but it's CHRISTMAS (Pasko ng Pagkabuhay) although appropriately, it's more correct to use the word "Pasko" for "Easter" (Pasko ng Pagkabuhay)."
source: In defense of the Church
Sabi niya, ang PASKO daw is NOT ABOUT (PASKWA) THE JEWISH PASSOVER dahil ito daw ay CHRISTMAS.
YES, CORRECT Mr. Catholicdefender2000, nice!
Now i know more kung bakit hindi tau nag ce celebrate ng PASKO...
Iisa lang sila but they have multiple meanings.Pasko is derived from pascua. That was my realization before I found this in google. So I didn't believe that Dec. 25 is Christmas. I am actually a Catholic but I know you have more reasons to criticize our church. Many religions are against the Catholic church and I understand them because catholic teachings are not base from the bible. At first, I couldn't believe it but the more I became curious, gradually I realized they are right.
ReplyDeleteGood day..
