"May bukas pa" is a high rated Philippine drama that shows good values and moral lessons, but because it is very popular among filipinos especially the children, they are influenced then to call our Lord Jesus Christ as "Bro" (a shortcut term for brother), the other term for "Bro" is "Pare/Tol".
Many may ask, what then is wrong to that?
Well, if you will just analyze it, it was a disrespectful act. I will not make this longer, and i will just give examples...
Think of this...
Is it okay if while you are talking to a president of a company or a country, is it a good act to call him/her as Pare or Mare?
Is it okay if while you are talking to a king or a queen, is it a good act to call him/her as Bro or Sis?
But the fact that if others talking to a king, what will they say before they say something?
"Your highness..."
"Your majesty..."
and etc.
But then you will call Jesus Christ as "Bro"?!
The point here is that what Catholics and others call our Lord Jesus Christ as "Bro" is a big insult to him especially they are believing that Jesus Christ is God.
Where's the respect anyway?
And the LATEST is...
NOTE: I have no bad feelings for Abs-cbn or to that drama, but to those behind that idea... The thing is, they should first analyze what will be the effect of it to its audience, before they do something like this because they are unaware that they are insulting Jesus Christ especially those who believe that he is God.

- This is a good observation and I totally agree. Let us call Jesus as Jesus and not Bro or Kuya Jess. As Paul said to the Philippians:
"Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Phil 2:10)

ReplyDeleteI agree, Jesus does not deserve to be called by names using street language. I lament filipino catholics'tendency to become like protestants and consider nothing sacred at all.
ReplyDeleteJesus Christ is holy and is not an ordinary person so i don't think it is right to call Him in whatever name we want because God Himself gave our Lord Jesus Christ His name. And I think calling Him in any name is a kind of disrespect although we don't mean to do that. and who wants to be called by any name other than his own name? or if you call someone using another name other than his own name, maybe he will ignore you by thinking that you're calling somebody else.
ReplyDeleteI don't think also that INC accuses the program as being disrespectful. They just want to open our mind that it is not correct to call our LOrd JesusChrist as "BRO".
Forest king, how did you accuse INC now? INC never treat JesusChrist as what u've said "JUST A HUMAN". Don't you notice? their comment about how wrong to call our Lord JesusChrist as "BRO" is one of the proof that they don't treat Him as what u've said "JUST A HUMAN". I think you need to learn more about their beliefs so you can understand their good intentions. Thank you!
